Bingo a nostalgic pastime for latest winner
DANIEL Williams has fond memories of playing bingo with his parents “way back in the old days”.
When the 87-year-old Bribie Island resident won a $1000 Visa debit card through the Sunshine Coast Daily’s Bill Busters Bingo, he was beyond excited... once he figured out how the card could be used.
“When I told my wife, she didn’t believe me at first and when she asked what we’d won, I said ‘I don’t know’,” Mr Williams said.
“It is absolutely wonderful as we very rarely win anything in raffles so we were really surprised.”
Mr Williams and Margaret recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and have lived on the island for 22 years.
A Daily reader for 10 years, Mr Williams had tried his luck in the last round of bingo without any success, but he is a firm believer in being “in it to win it”.
“I got a couple of extra cards from my friends and sat down every day and played,” Mr Williams said.
“At our age, there are not terribly many things that we’d want, so we’ll probably get something to update or improve the home and make it more comfortable.”
The prizes keep on coming, with a $1000 travel voucher to be won on July 29 and a $1500 grocery voucher will be won on August 5.
To win, you’ll need a bingo card from either the July 8, 9, 15 or 16 edition of the Daily. Then check your bingo numbers every day in the Daily.
Register your winning ticket by calling the 1900 number on your game card. (Calls cost $0.55 (incl GST). Mobile and payphones cost extra).
