BIG SPEND: $19.4m to fix dangerous Southern Downs highway
THE New England Highway is set for a $19.4 million upgrade to improve safety after it was identified as one of the most dangerous roads in Queensland.
The Warwick Daily News reported a stretch of road from Warwick to Wallangarra will be widened to allow more room between oncoming traffic and extra turning lanes.
Eight highway intersections were flagged by the Department of Transport and Main Roads as dangerous and will be upgraded.
They include Mackenzie St, West Rd, Miners Lane, Glen Aplin Dr, Calvert Rd, Townsends Rd, Limberlost Rd and Booth Lane.
About $4.1 million in the budget is allocated for the 2019-2020 financial year, about $13.8 million is set for 2020-21 and the remaining $1.5 million worth of work will start in 2021-22.
