Big night for young DJ and others

FRESH and fun is the idea behind the End of School Christmas Party at the Civic Centre tomorrow night.

Pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 will be able to forget their classrooms pretty quickly when they experience a line up of local talent at the event presented by Orbiting Star Productions.

Twelve-year-old Gympie Central student Josh Wilson, aka DJ J Dub, will host the party. Josh has DJ-ed at school discos before but said this was his biggest job.

"It's going to be one of my biggest milestones, because it's going to be one of my biggest crowds," Josh said.

Rising country music star Caitlyn Shadbolt who played on the main stage at the Gympie Muster this year will sing and guest dancers Focus on Dance Troupe and pop dancer Liam Kishawi will also perform.

Orbiting Star Productions manager Craig Abbott said he wanted to give local youth a chance to shine.

"We wanted a platform to operate from that has high product performance," Mr Abbott said.

"There's not that much for kids that's not council-sponsored. We want the highest possible production value. We want people to walk in, and say 'Yep, that was well worth it'."

Mr Abbott is hoping to start monthly dance parties in the New Year to give performers more experience.

Tomorrow night's party starts at 6pm at Gympie Civic Centre and costs $10. Children will be released to parents on pick-up at 9pm.
