The Big Music Quiz gives The Block a run for its money

CHANNEL 7's new music game show has done better than expected in the ratings.

The quiz show narrowly beat The Block's master bathroom reveals last night, attracting 1.211 million metro viewers compared to The Block's 1.151 million viewers.

Each week eight celebrities compete in individual and team-based challenges on the show, which is inspired by a late-night French show and is hosted by Darren McMullen.

The Big Music Quiz's early success could be a sign that Aussie families want something fun to watch, rather than the dramas and conflict of reality TV shows like Survivor and The Block.

Australian Survivor was the ninth most-watched show of the night, slipping from 734,000 metro viewers on Monday last week to 662,000 metro viewers last night.

Ten has expanded the show to three nights a week, meaning on Tuesday nights it will go up against The Block and Zumbo's Just Desserts.
