Big bio swipe by Noosa Council candidate

A MEMBER of Noosa Parks Association's inner circle has used her council election campaign speech at Noosaville to attack the new governance of the shire's green heart.

Ingrid Jackson - the NPA secretary who is running as an independent candidate - at last Wednesday's meet the candidates' forum took aim at the Noosa Biosphere Reserve Foundation right from her opening remarks in front of hundreds of voters.

"If elected I will be pressing Noosa Council to review the foundation's governance and performance so we get value for our Biosphere.

"The governing Biosphere foundation is meant to set strategy, raise funds for community projects and let the rest of us know what's going on," Ms Jackson said.

"So far we've seen confusing governance, no clear strategy, little communication and not nearly enough transparency."

Ms Jackson said the UNESCO Biosphere program is about "sustainably blending the community, economy and

environment to achieve an exceptional result".

She said the volunteer community Biosphere association was set up to be the voice of the people and "it's doing a terrific job".

Ms Jackson also released a media statement that day which was scathing on the foundation which seems to be "failing in one of its primary tasks of raising funds".

"At present most of its funds come from Noosa Council, and this was never intended to be the case."

Ms Jackson added that another important issue concerns how the foundation's members are selected and by whom.

"It gives every appearance of being a closed shop," she said.

Ms Jackson used her opening address to also criticise the outgoing council's negative stance and promised to be part of a council that says 'yes'.

"Since I've been running for council many people have told me they think the council too often says no," she said.

"We all want a council that is positive, flexible and solution- oriented in response to people's problems."
