Best gardens on centre’s agenda
CALLING all local green thumbs, the Ipswich Visitor Information Centre is looking for you for a new tour.
Ipswich City Council Tourism Committee chairman Councillor David Pahlke said the centre planned to offer a new tour around the city during 2014 which would visit the area's best gardens.
"We are currently looking for keen gardeners who would be interested in opening up their gardens and showing people around," Cr Pahlke said.
"The gardeners taking part would have the opportunity to sell plants and seeds to tour participants while sharing their passion with other keen gardeners.
"The tour will have a home gardeners' focus and take participants around Ipswich through private home gardens, a local nursery and the Queens Park Glass House, pointing out interesting gardens along the way."
Cr Pahlke said the gardens tour would complement the existing Ipswich Heritage Tour and provide an incentive for visitors to return to the region and see a different side to Ipswich.
"Anyone with interesting information about local plants and gardens that can be included in the tour script is also encouraged to share their information.
"We are hoping to launch the first garden tour in late March."
Anyone interested in taking part in the gardeners' tour, or anyone who can provide local gardening information for these tours can phone Victoria Nugent at the Ipswich Visitor Information Centre on 3281 0555.
