Bellingen Youth Hub acclaimed at second birthday milestone
NOW celebrating its second birthday, Bellingen Shire Youth Hub has become a community treasure.
Since the official opening in August 2012, the Hub has seen an increase in usage by young people and general community groups for a diversity of programs.
From youth development and services, through partnerships with organisations like Bellingen Shire Youth Services and Reconnect, the centre has further established its rapport and trust with young people.
It's a place to drop-in for activities, to chill out, or to look for guidance and support.
As well, the Hub has responded to numerous requests from high schools and NSW State Government departments to assist with youth issues and services.
Mayor Mark Troy said the Hub has increased its general community engagement and contribution outside of 'youth only' programs.
These include Camp Creative, the Readers and Writers' Festival, the Jazz Festival, music nights and activities by various other groups.
"Financially the centre has operated within its budget, balancing the overall operational costs with workshop development," Mayor Troy said.
"This includes the maintenance and still-developing capital works required of the centre.
"I'd like to praise the efforts of the staff and the many volunteers who have generously donated their expertise, time, money and equipment over the past two years, making the centre the success it is today."
In a report to council, Hub coordinator Dean Besley said feedback has been tremendously supportive.
"The Youth Hub continues to be an exciting, busy and inspiring environment," he said.
"It's one I believe contributes significantly to the wellbeing of our general community, especially our young people."
