Being short is a 'big advantage' for truckie Mark
BEING just 158cm tall can be a "big advantage" for southern Queensland based driver Mark Collier.
"I have lots more room in the bunk than most truckies," he said.
The 60-year-old drives a Kenworth for Brown's Slipways and was parked beside a colleague at the BP Cluden when we saw him.
"I have been a truckie for 40 years and like the job and people I get to meet," he said.
Mark lives at Warana on the Sunshine Coast and has been with this company for nine years.
Quietly spoken, he said he doesn't stop at many roadhouses and rates sections of the Newell Hwy as a challenge to drive on.
I told Mark that over several decades I have snapped pictures of at least 12 truckies who were shorter in height that he.
The first truck he drove was an old International Transtar but he couldn't recall the exact year.
His main hobby when he manages time off is jet skiing at Fraser Island.
