Beautiful Baby returns home

SHE may not have been such a beautiful baby when Chris Eyre bought her, but to paraphrase the old song, "baby look at her now".

"Baby" the cockatoo also answers to the name "Beautiful" and probably looks better than ever now she has returned to her worried owner, Chris Eyre, and his mum, Shelley Eyre.

The Eyres experienced a less-than-joyous Christmas after Baby set off to explore the world on Christmas Eve, aided by a tail wind and heading for Southside.

Riding the wind like a veteran, she made a good couple of kilometres from Jones Hill to the Rocklea Dr home of Southside's Isaacson family.

Kerri and John Isaacson discovered her sitting on their swimming pool fence when they awoke early Monday morning.

The hand-raised bird was "starving", Kerri said yesterday.

"We fed her sunflower seeds - parrot food," John said.

"I put my finger up to her chest; she crawled onto my finger and walked up my arm.

"She's used to being inside. She sat on the pool table and then the back of a chair.

"We turned the ceiling fans off for safety," Kerri said.

"We were wondering what to do when we saw the article about her in The Gympie Times.

"We nearly couldn't understand what her owner was saying when we rang, he was so excited."
