Barbecues take the heat off NSW Rural Fire Service and SES

BUNNINGS Grafton supported local volunteer emergency services throughout the country this Australia Day.

Thanks to the generosity of thousands of Australians, more than $450,000 was raised.

NSW residents helped raise over $125,000 and these funds will go towards the NSW Rural Fire Service and the SES.

Held on Saturday January 24 at every Bunnings store, the Aussie Day Weekend Fundraiser BBQs were manned by the Bunnings team to show support and appreciation for the amazing work done by volunteer emergency services.

Bunnings managing director John Gillam, said the Bunnings team were thrilled to be able to help.

"Thank you to everyone who bought a snag and contributed to this great cause. And a huge thanks also to all the emergency services volunteers and everyone in our team that helped run the barbecues," John said.

Over 3,700 team members, local volunteers and emergency services volunteers ran more than 240 barbecues all over Australia, helping cook more than 127,000 sausages!

The NSW Rural Fire Service is the largest volunteer fire service in the world, with around 74,000 members forming more than 2,000 brigades. There are 3.25 million people living in bushfire prone land in NSW, in 1.3 million homes, all protected by the volunteers of the NSW RFS..
