Band set to jazz up Father's Day

IF YOU'RE in Proserpine and are looking for something to do this Father's Day, look no further than Proserpine Entertainment Centre's Jazz n Shiraz featuring the Whitsunday Big Band.

The music event will once again hit the lawn at Proserpine with a mix of jazz, swing, blues, funk and rock music.

It's sure to be a fantastic afternoon of live music as the Whitsunday Big Band makes its first appearance in Proserpine.

The band will be performing under the portico while you relax on the lawn.

Proserpine Entertainment Whitsundays manager Chris Patrick said it would be a great way to spend this Father's Day.

"This is Father's Day so treat your dad, come along and shout him for the day,” Mr Patrick said.

"It's only $10 a head, kids are free. It's a family day.”

Mr Patrick said even though he'd never seen the Whitsunday Big Band perform, he'd heard great things about them.

"They're members from all over the Whitsundays - Bowen, Midge Point, Mackay, Airlie Beach, Cannonvale, Proserpine,” he said.

"They attract a good crowd. From what I've heard they're very good. A real polished act.”

Whitsunday Big Band leader Mike Leyland said they had been playing together for about 18 months and now featured 15 members.

"We play big band jazz, everything from rock right through to swing and big band swing back through to rock,” Mr Leyland said.

The bar will be open and food stalls will provide plenty to whet your appetite.

Attendees are asked to bring their own chair or picnic blanket to enjoy the afternoon on.

Tickets can be bought at the door and kids under 15 will be granted free entry.
