BALI Nine drug smuggler Myuran Sukumaran has lost his final clemency bid and could face the firing squad within weeks.

Sukumaran and fellow Bali Nine member Andrew Chan have been on death row in Indonesia since they were convicted in 2006 for their role in a plot to smuggle 8.2kg of heroin from Bali to Sydney.

The two Australians have exhausted all their death sentence appeals and had pinned their hopes on their remorse and rehabilitation behind bars winning them a presidential pardon.

But newly elected Indonesian President Joko Widodo has declared that none of the 64 drug convicts currently on death row would get clemency from him.

He has ordered officials to start preparing for executions to be undertaken this year.

An Indonesian government official hand-delivered the rejection letter this week to Sukumaran inside Bali's Kerobokan prison.

Chan has not yet received a decision on his clemency bid.
