WITH regards to the story of the NBN problems faced by the owner of Billabong Pools (Daily, June 20) and our own family's experience, it is with some trepidation we await connection to the NBN.

Our family at Palmwoods had the NBN installed a few months ago. While they are happy with the internet connection, their landline has not been working.

Telstra has tried to fix the problem without success. As I have a hearing impairment, and find mobiles not always the best, it has been particularly inconvenient for me.

At present we are scheduled to be connected sometime early next year; two years later than the then LNP Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, promised to deliver the NBN by switching to a fibre-to-the-node NBN.

The government is now saying it will be completed at the same time as the original fibre-to-the-premises NBN being built by the Labor government.

With the LNP's second-rate copper NBN there has been a fall of our NBN speed from a world ranking in September, 2013, of 30th to 51st lagging behind Kenya, Latvia, Romania, Estonia and New Zealand.

That alone makes a mockery of Mr Turnbull's rhetoric about being a smarter, more competitive nation. Future generations will pay the price of a slower, less-efficient NBN.
