B grade pool A grade result

CENTRAL Queensland City avenged its grand final loss last year when it defeated Fraser Coast 13-9 to be B grade champions of the CQ Sports City versus Country 8 ball tournament.

CQ City player Anthony Harding says it was a team effort and when the chips were down, his team-mates came out fighting.

“It was good to go one better and bring it home,” a satisfied Harding said.

The Gladstone player joined Tim Work, Tommy Johnson, Jon Cleary, Karauna KB Baker and Shane Barnes as the jubilant contingent which trumped against Bundaberg 13-8 to qualify for the decider.

“We all backed each other and showed team spirit,”Harding said.

“If someone lost a frame then we would all encourage each other.”

The team played six games ahead of the finals and finished on top.

It was a format where the first-ranked team played the fourth side with the winner to qualify for the decider.

Gladstone’s Chris Lethaus says to play against fellow Gladstone players Errol Long and Chad Baker was one of the hardest things he has done en-route to a runner-up place in the C grade singles division.

“My next opponent was not a local Brian McKosh and I beat him 3-0,” Lethaus said.

It was a midnight finish on the Friday night and Lethaus then had to back up later on Saturday night.

“The grand final was not until 10.30pm on Saturday and I lost 4-2,” Lethaus added.

“They were all close games and I made a crucial mistake in the last game.

“I was pleased though because last year I was knocked out in the second round.
