Awards to reward going above and beyond

THE Start Playing Stay Playing Excellence Awards aim to acknowledge achievements in the sport and active recreation industry.

They are designed for individuals, groups or organisations going above and beyond to increase and enhance sport and active recreation opportunities for women and girls in Queensland.

There are three award categories: Inclusion, innovation and inspiration.

The inclusion award recognises individuals, groups or organisations that have gone above and beyond to include female participants who experience barriers to participation such as access, socio-economic, disability or other such barriers.

The innovation award recognises individuals, groups or organisations that have implemented a new and innovative initiative to increase or enhance women and girls' participation.

The inspiration award is to recognise individuals or teams and/or groups who have achieved a significant goal (not limited to athletic achievement). This may include achievements by women who work or volunteer in the sport and recreation industry.

The 2018 Inspiration category will be dedicated solely to the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to celebrate the 2018 NAIDOC Week theme: "Because of her, we can!”

Strapping workshop

SPORTS strapping is used across the industry in the treatment, management and prevention of sports injuries.

But when should strapping be used?

This course provides hands-on experience of advanced strapping techniques, with a focus on injuries associated with the knee and shoulder joints.

Advanced principles and application of strapping as a post-injury or preventative measure are also covered.

This workshop builds on the beginner sports strapping workshop which is a prerequisite for registration. It is ideal for players, parents, team managers and first aid staff who work directly with athletes.

The workshop is on Monday, August 20, from 6pm-9pm at Fernvale Futures (1483 Brisbane Valley Highway, Fernvale).
