Aussies narrowly miss rowing podium

AUSTRALIA has narrowly missed a medal in a thrilling finish to the lightweight men's four rowing contest in London.

Denmark set a scorching pace early and Australia was poised in second entering the final 500 metres.

Only 1.2 seconds separated the first four across the line.

South Africa's victory by about a foot denied Britain a third gold medal of the Games and a win for brothers Peter and Richard Chambers from Northern Ireland.
