AUCTION: Part of Maryborough's history to go under hammer

A RESIDENCE built in 1878 to serve as housing for the station masters of Maryborough's railway will go under the hammer at 6pm on Thursday.

The property, an asset of the State Government, is being sold by First National Real Estate.

Real estate agent Karen Maxwell said there had been a great deal of interest in the iconic property, which is located at 192 Lennox St.

It was originally drafted and approved for construction in April, 1878 and remains right in the middle of Maryborough's CBD.

It was zoned for use as both a commercial and residential property, which made it very attractive for buyers, Ms Maxwell said.

The building had an external renovation in 2012 and is ready to be fitted out internally.

Ms Maxwell said the property would be open for viewing at 5pm, before the auction started at 6pm.

If it does not sell at auction, the property will be passed in and will then be placed on the open market.
