Assault penalties must be realistic
NURSES (I was one for a few years) have convinced the state government to impose ludicrous penalties for "assaults".
Who out there is paid to be assaulted?
Does the local pizza outlet have a large number of very large enforcers to protect them at a moment's notice?
The probability of 14 years for assaulting a taxi driver would be giggled at.
If nurses demanded 14 years for the federal members who vote to deny Australians the right to live; ie eliminating vital pathology for the people who will never be able to cope financially, folk will die because of this outrageous proposal.
Surely not one elected member could face re-election in any electorate with history of a yes vote on this farcical question.
It must be a pre-election smokescreen.
