Assange given most consular help

THE Australian Government has given WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange more consular help than any other citizen Foreign Minister Bob Carr knows of.

An appeal by Mr Assange, against his extradition to Sweden from the United Kingdom, was defeated on Wednesday.

He has now been given a fortnight to consider his next move to avoid questioning by Swedish authorities about sexual assault allegations.

Mr Carr said yesterday Mr Assange had been given every consular service available to Australians facing legal action overseas, the same as the government would do for any citizen.
