Artist muses on mural magic

WHEN Daniel Arcidiacono was competing in the paragliding Corryong Cup in Victoria's high plains last year, he managed to find a job for his dad, Franco.

Franco and wife, Morwenna lived in the tiny nearby hamlet of Colac Colac for three weeks as Franco painted a mural on the town's band shelter.

On Thursday, August 22, Franco will give a talk about the project as part of Seniors Week. The talk is one of the events organised by U3A, the University of the Third Age, which offers social and learning activities for retired and semi-retired people.

U3A president, Julie Barnes said the group was thrilled to have Franco make a presentation about the mural.

"His work is really amazing, he is very passionate about art,” she said.

"It really comes across in his talks.”

Franco may not have been so happy about the price he received, as Daniel had said 'my Dad can do it for a tenth of that' when told the fee requested by another prominent artist. To sweeten the deal, three weeks accommodation was included and Morwenna went along to 'clean the brushes and mix the paint'.

Despite the low quote, Morwenna said the pair had 'a delightful three week vacation' staying in the cottage and painting each day.

Morwenna said that the 20 metre by three metre work attracted a lot of local attention from the grey nomads who passed through the town and stopped at the information centre

The talk will be held at the RSL in Marsh Street, Stanthorpe at 12 noon on Thursday, August 22. .
