Arrows pointing towards students' futures

WHEN 16-year-old Lindsay Markham looks out the bedroom window in his dorm at Dalby State High School, Bunya Campus, he can see what he wants his future to look like.

Lindsay can sometimes see engineers working on their ploughs and tractors, and it gives him motivation to study hard, get to uni, and achieve his dream job.

Thanks to Arrow Energy's collaboration with Dalby State High School, Lindsay and nine of his peers have been given $5000 boarding scholarships to allow them to continue their studies and keep looking toward their future.

Dalby State High School principal Dr Dean Russell thanked Arrow Energy for fostering their relationship with the school.

"It's actually quite rare for a school to have a scholarship arrangement like this,” Dr Russell said.

"Particularly one that has gone for so many years and to be honest particularly for one that is worth so much money for the students involved.

"Thank you for everything Arrow does for us. It is much appreciated.”

The scholarship was awarded to 10 nominated students, who applied for the scholarships and were then selected by the school.

Students had to be studying at Dalby State High School and boarding at its Bunya campus.

Lindsay said he has wanted to become a mechanical engineer for a long time, and now the scholarship is helping him achieve his dreams.

"I've always just liked building stuff, making stuff, and fixing it,” Lindsay said.

"Mechanical engineering sounded like a good thing to do.”

At just 14, Lauren Kelly already has big things planned for her future.

"I love studying agriculture,” Lauren said.

"I was planning on going to University of Queensland at Gatton to study sustainable agriculture.

"At Dalby State High School the Ag program is really good because we've got the old Ag college and it's really well set up.

"We've got all the good opportunities for that.”
