Man charged over hold-up
AN 18-year-old man will appear in court tomorrow in relation to an armed robbery at a Bourbong Street convenience store this morning.
A man allegedly entered the NightOwl about 7am and demanded a pack of cigarettes from the attendant while brandishing a plastic cap gun.
Police searched for the offender until about 2pm, when they arrested the teenager at a house in Woondooma Street.
The 18-year-old was charged with armed robbery and entering a premises to commit an indictable offence.
Bundaberg Police Detective Senior Sergeant Joe Hildred said police also searched a house in Electra Street, where a shirt, toy gun, cannabis and utensils were seized.
Det Snr Sgt Hildred, speaking at a press conference yesterday morning, said it was “concerning” someone would threaten a shop assistant, even if it was with a fake weapon.
“I think the last armed hold-up we had in the Bundaberg region was in March last year,” he said.
Det Snr Sgt Hildred said the man working at the NightOwl was visibly shaken when police arrived at the shop.
The dog squad was also called to the scene to help track the alleged robber.
A spokeswoman for the NightOwl store said the member of staff had been offered counselling and was holding up well.
