Ariel, from under the sea to a stage in Ballina

THE Little Mermaid is the upcoming production by Ballina Players Theatre Company, with tickets now on sale.

The show stars Jade Rushwood as Ariel, the beautiful but rebellious mermaid who is fascinated by the world and lives of people on dry land.

The Little Mermaid is a stage musical produced by Disney Theatrical, based on the animated 1989 Disney film of the same name and the classic story of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen.

Ariel longs to someday join them, especially when she meets her prince, played by Liam Gatt.

The mermaid then gives up her voice to find love.

The production's book is by Doug Wright, music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman (written for the film), with additional lyrics by Glenn Slater.

Its underwater setting and story about aquatic characters requires unusual technical designs and strategies to create gliding movements for the actors.

This popular Disney classic will delight audiences of all ages.

It includes the catchy and award-winning songs Under the Sea, and Part of Your World, with Max Foggon as vocal director.

Mr Foggon will also be on stage as King Triton.

This exciting production is created by an almost entirely new production team, led by Jacquie McCalman, and mentored by Mike Sheehan and Sue Belsham.

The Little Mermaid runs at Ballina Players from January 12 to 21.

  • Booking information is on the website ballinaplayers.com.au or via Facebook. Tickets can also be bought at Just Funkin Music, River St, Ballina.
