Argent ends frustrating world champs with bronze

BLACKBUTT'S Mitch Argent added a bronze to his growing medal tally after being denied gold in a frustrating finish to the 2017 STIHL Timbersports World Championships in Norway.

The Chopperoos finished well ahead of Poland in their semi-final but an early start in the change between the underhand chop and single buck prompted a video review and a 15-second penalty for the Aussies to hand Poland victory.

Australia went on to defeat Canada for bronze with New Zealand claiming the gold medal ahead of Poland.

The Aussies' winning third-place time was the quickest of the tournament and 4.7 seconds faster than that of the Kiwis in their final victory.

"It was a good competition and we were in a great position to win, but one small mistake was all it took,” Argent said.

"I'm disappointed that we didn't make it to the final heat but we're taking home the bronze, which is still a great achievement.

"I think we're all determined to get back next year and right this wrong.”
