Are we missing the point?

I AM grateful for International Women's Day and the opportunity this day provides for women.

However, I question whether we are making the most of this day.

For me the day is a call to action just as much as a day of support and celebration.

We have every day to support, love and celebrate the women in our lives.

But it is not every day privileged women have an internationally recognised platform to create the change we want to see in a practical way for those without this opportunity.

International Women's Day is an opportunity to recognise the inequalities still impacting disadvantaged women living anywhere in the world.

This day is a reminder there is still so much more we need to do for all women to live equally.

This day should remind the world we will not stop marching or fighting until real equality has been achieved.

What are we doing with our voices on the one day everyone is listening?

Are we stopping to recognise our own privilege and fighting for those women who have had their voices taken from them?

I sincerely wish we would show support in a practical way to women outside of our immediate circles, to the women who need it most.
