The final showdown

THE senior grand finals of the Gympie and District Netball Association season on Monday night produced some outstanding netball and interesting results.

The A-grade and C-grade teams were first up at 6.30pm.

The A-graders, Apparently and Insiders, both had subs to spare for the decider.

The Insiders had claimed the minor premiership, eight points up on the competition ladder ahead of Apparently, but the runners-up toppled them in the grand final 39-25.

The 57-23 scoreline was cause for celebration for the Ladybirds, with many players coming back to netball this season after many years off the court.

Games controller Ruth Smith said Insiders did not play to their usual standard and it came down to who performed better on the night.

"The shooters in Apparently hardly missed a goal," she said.

The C-grade decider, between Bruises and Roulettes, resulted in a Bruises' win, with double their opposition's score 28-14.

Smith said it was a surprising pairing, as minor premiers the All Stars were knocked out by the Bruises in the semi-finals last week.

The Bruises were a strong team and well-rehearsed after playing together a long time, she said.

Later, it was the B-grade women's turn on court in what turned out to be a bit of a walkover, as the Ladybirds were way too strong for Mayhem.

Although both teams finished on 39 points for the season, the Ladybirds won the minor premiership on countback and the team proved formidable in the grand final, winning 57-23.

Smith said if the Ladybirds played next season, they, and other top-performing teams, would likely move into A-grade.

All minor premiers and premiership trophies will be awarded at the Gympie and District Netball Association presentation night on Saturday, September 26, at the Gympie Civic Centre.

There will be food, drinks, prizes and trivia.
