APOLLO Jackson is the tall and handsome magician vying for Sophie Monk's heart on this year's Bachelorette.

Ms Monk said she thought "all magicians were nerdbergers" but after meeting Mr Jackson, who's real name is Jake Spence, she was wowed by his charming personality and good looks.

The series has only just started but already Mr Spence is coming across as the all-round nice guy.

He was chosen to dress as Ares, the god of war, in the group date photo session, where he got to snuggle up to Ms Monk who was dressed as Aphrodite.

Mr Spence said the experience of being on the show was surreal.

"I was so nervous and the fact the woman you are meeting and potentially falling in love with is Sophie Monk makes it even more nerve-racking," he said.

"I went on and decided to 100% be myself and if that didn't work I'd be okay.

"I'm a bit of a dork and rough around the edges but I wanted Sophie to see the real me. It has been the most amazing experience."

Mr Spence said he got along with everyone in the house, even taking up the role of residential chef.

"I got along with everyone and just had a blast," he said.

"I'm someone who removes themselves from drama so I got along well with everyone."

Mr Spence watched the first episode with his family as they celebrated the premiere and his grandma's birthday.

"It's been a crazy adventure and I can't predict what's next but I'll definitely continue with my magic," he said.

Mr Spence is no amateur magician, making a name for himself before appearing on the show.

He has performed in Las Vegas and cities around Australia, including Toowoomba.

When he was here in December he gave The Chronicle staff their own personal show and promised to be back to perform stage shows.

"I had plans to come back earlier in the year but it has been such a whirlwind that I haven't been able to," he said.

"But I definitely haven't forgotten about Toowoomba and will be back. I'd love to perform at the Empire."
