Another legend lost to us
ANOTHER great musician has been lost to us. And, again, at the age of 66.
Jon English was part of my childhood and teenaged years. Dark, sultry, dangerous and with a voice so full of gravel you could practically see him spitting the rocks out.
It was at the Gympie Civic Centre some time in the 1980s (I believe) that I saw Jon English perform in The Pirates of Penzance.
He was full of mischief and his leopard skin pants were so tight my mother could not tear her eyes away, and commented after the show on a detail of his masculine physique which she had been able to deduce from said tight pants.
She was very impressed. It was all too much for a daughter's ears.
My mother likes to remind everyone about it also, every time the subject of Jon English comes up.
She'll be telling somebody about it today no doubt.
So, rock out Jon. You were a legend with a huge heart and we will never forget your amazing, unique talent.
Or those pants.
