Animals are still in need of loving homes
THREE silky terrier-cross pups were lucky enough to be adopted at the Mackay Animal Rescue Society's adoption day.
However two bull Arab puppies that were dumped in Sarina, and taken into the society's care, are still looking for homes.
MARS held its monthly adoption yesterday and offered up several homeless cats and dogs.
MARS co-ordinator Peta Mogg said it was "great" to be able to find a home for any animal.
"There are a lot of dogs and cats - especially in Mackay - who need new homes so we've been going stronger and better," she said.
"We've had four dogs and two cats adopted."
Animals can be adopted at any time through the rescue society.
"We find, over the next week or so after our adoption day, carers get a lot of calls.
"People have been down and had a look and then contact (them) and go ahead with adoption," Ms Mogg said.
"There's a wide variety of animals.
"We had six-week-old terrier-cross puppies who found a home.
"But then we have a six-year-old great Dane-cross.
"We take everything we can as long as we have the carers.
"Obviously the more carers, the more dogs and cats we can help."
Ms Mogg said adopting could be a cheaper option for those looking for a dog or cat.
"Female dogs are $350; male dogs are $290," Ms Mogg said. "That includes vaccination, worming, a health check, heartworm test for dogs, microchip and also the de-sexing."
Adoption days are held on the last Sunday of every month at Ooh La La Pet Day Spa, Andergrove, from 9am-noon.
