Ancient Viking sword found in unlikely circumstances
A GAGGLE of geese hunters in Iceland found a 1000-year-old Viking sword on an outing.
The rusted weapon was discovered in dirt and undergrowth in Skaftarhreppur, Southern Iceland. One hunter, Arni Bjorn Valdimarsson, claims it may have belonged to Ingolfr Arnarson, considered the first Icelander.
The amazing find is now in possession of the Icelandic Cultural Heritage Agency. Kristin Huld Sigurdardottir, the director general of the agency, said: "We are very excited ... as this is only the 24th sword from the Viking era found in Iceland.”
