All-weather Kids Day for Buskers Festival

WHEN organisers of the Buskers Festival were looking for an all-weather venue to host their children's program way back in 2005 (after being rained out in 2003 and 2004 at other locations), they hit on the idea of having it at the Coffs Harbour Racing Club.

Located close to town in Howard St, the venue offered several ideal facilities.

It was blessed with a green open expanse that could accommodate a large crowd, a generous undercover area in the event of rain so that the whole program continues no matter what the weather and a perimeter fence so mums and parents could be a little more relaxed.

Organisers, however, still thought more was to be done.

John Logan, who has coordinated the event since 2000, had long held the view that children's entertainment was largely being done wrongly .

"All these kids' entertainers have got it wrong. Parents only go to these things to support their kids, so why not make parents free?," John said.

They then set about putting together a high energy kids' program with one ticket price covering all the entertainment once you are in the gate.

And best of all, John said "the buskers don't ask for hat donations, the ticket price covers that".

"For $10, they get a full day's entertainment, six to seven shows, free jumping castles, accompanying parents are free and this year they get the added bonus of the Wheel Of Steel, a fabulous 12-metre high revolving structure that will have you glued to your seat as a daredevil acrobat walks around the outside."

Kids Day will be held tomorrow. Gates open 9.30am and the action starts at 10am.

To book online, go to www.coffsharbourbuskers.com to avoid long queues on the day.

Group booking discount also applies for groups of 10 or more.
