All new Jeep Cherokee to arrive later this year

CHRYSLER will continue its Australian offensive with an all-new Jeep Cherokee due to arrive here later in the year.

Jeep Australia has confirmed the large SUV will reach Australian dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Already it's starting to cause a stir.

The all-new mid-size SUV features polarising styling, with the recognisable seven-slot grille sporting a prominent horizontal crease through its centre. Slimline headlights and larger, squared-off fog-lights and a thick, angular front bumper help cement the new look for a Cherokee that clearly looks as though it will appeal to a different market to the squarer Cherokees that have typified the breed.

Little detail has been released about the new model, but it is believed to be based on the same underpinnings as the Alfa Romeo Giulietta - and the all-new Cherokee could be smaller than the model it replaces.

Set to debut at the New York International Auto Show in March, Jeep says the 2014 Cherokee will build on its off-road capability and functionality and will feature fuel economy improvements of more than 45% over the outgoing model.

"We are pleased to confirm that the all-new Jeep Cherokee will be available to Australian buyers in the fourth quarter of 2013," Fiat Chrysler Group Australia chairman and CEO Clyde Campbell said.

"The current model Jeep Cherokee has been a strong sales performer since its launch in 2008 and we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new model."

The all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee will be built in the United States at Chrysler Group's Toledo Assembly Plant in Toledo, Ohio.
