After-cyclone poolside parties continue at Mercure Resort

THE Capricorn Coast has been through some tough times recently, but the likes of Grantley Jack want to give the town something to smile about this weekend.

Grantley, the owner of Yeppoon electrical contracting business NRG, said he and three other local business owners had decided to organise the Poolside Sessions event at Mercure Resort.

"It all started because of the cyclone," he said.

"There were a lot of kids who lost their houses and everyone's gone through a bit of hardship.

"So myself, Karla from Coal Train, JRT and Brad Hoff from Capricorn Coast Sand and Soil got together and decided to put something on to raise some money."

All ticket sales go to children's charity Variety and prizes will be donated to deserving local children during the two-day event, which features a host of local musicians and headliners Bombs Away.

Grantley said he was excited to be a part of something that would inject fun and positivity into the local community.

"That's what it's about - getting past the doom and gloom phase and getting back to normality, so it'll be a great night," he said.

Saturday will host the Post Cyclone Pool Party, which kicks off at 2pm, while Sunday is the After Marcia Recovery Sessions featuring chilled acoustics and solo acts as well as bands, starting at 3pm.

The event will be in the lead-up to the Jet Trek, which Grantley is taking part in to raise money for Variety. It will see him and the team travelling via jet ski on Monday morning from Rosslyn Bay Harbour to the Gold Coast.

Other event sponsors include Mercure and SeaFM.

POOLSIDE SESSIONS

Saturday: $30 adults, $10 children (aged four-14), under-four free. Sunday: $15 adult tickets, under-14 free.

Tickets won't be available for purchase on the day of the festival, pre-sale only from NRG Industrial, Yellow Door Books and Gifts and Green Brothers Rockhampton, or online at mercurecapricornresort.com.au.
