Address this before anything
AFTER reading NHVR boss Sal Petroccitto's thoughts on the HVNL Review, Peter Gavin had a wild suggestion.
"They should have two lanes for trucks only on every highway in Australia,” he said.
"They do it in other countries and it works a treat. The only reason they don't do it here is the cost. How much does a life really cost?”
Driver Paul Donnelly said in all of these reviews, the one thing they were forgetting about when it came to fatigue was unloading times.
"Until they address this, fatigue won't go away,” he said.
"How many times have we all had one drop, one pick-up 10 minutes apart and it has taken 10 hours.
"You've effectively done one hour's work for the day and the diary says you still have 11hrs left and the boss says I need (to be) back in Sydney by morning.”
