Aaron on song for reserves

A SUPERB third quarter by the Gladstone Mudcrabs proved vital as it engineered a 14.9 (93) to 12.10 (82) win against Rockhampton Panthers.

Veteran forward Aaron Barrett used all of his experience to have the Muddies out to an eight-goal lead early in the final stanza before last year's premiers made its run.

Panthers booted the final six goals of the game after a three-goal burt from Barrett (five goals).

"They got a bit of a run-on, but we held on for the win," Barrett said.

"Our newest player Dale Larkin kicked a couple of goals to get us back on track."

Another Aaron also shone in Saturday's match with Aaron Patton best on ground for Gladstone Mudcrabs.

Andrew Hopkinson was also dominant with two goals and got third best while Shaun McClure had a great match for the hosts.

Barrett has played at the Mudcrabs since 1995, but did have a stint down south in an attempt to make the big league in Victoria.

"I was brought up in Ballarat and played for Frankston in the VFL in 2003 when I was 22," he added.

However a setback derailed his dream with serious knee injuries.

"I had three knee reconstructions and that was it before I got back to Gladstone," Barrett said.

He is just four games away from the magical 200 game and that is something he will cherish in what will be a home match. The music company promotions worker has twice booted bags of 14 goals over the years for the green-and-whites.
