A stunning visual theatre experience for all ages
IS THE moon a balloon?
It can be.
A balloon can be whatever you want it to be.
Direct from successful seasons in Hong Kong and The Adelaide Festival Centre, The Events Centre, Caloundra will present the critically acclaimed Patch Theatre Company’s The Moon’s a Balloon tomorrow at 10am and 1.30pm.
Inspired by the E.E. cummings poem of the same name, The Moon’s a Balloon is a stunningly visual theatre experience that explores childhood play, friendship and potential of the imagination.
Two dancers connect, play and grow in a beautifully crafted theatrical world, full of magical light, digital imagery and arresting music.
“We live in a cluttered world of complexity, sophistication and gadgetry, yet the cardboard box or the simple balloon are still the most loved and utilised objects in children’s play – perhaps because they’re elemental. They can be anything a child wants them to be,” Naomi Edwards, Patch Theatre’s artistic director, said.
“Children’s life experiences are developed on a daily basis. They respond to quality theatre experiences with such immediacy and exuberance that you can’t doubt its power and impact.
“Patch invites you to come and see The Moon’s A Balloon and share this amazing theatre experience with the children in your lives.
“Children and adults alike will be transported to a world where life is not so busy and demanding.
“I hope that this show reminds us all that the world can be anything we want it to be.”
Adelaide Festival Centre’s Susannah Sweeny describes The Moon’s a Balloon as a “visually stunning … gorgeous, clever, slick, happy show”.
“I think it would sit beautifully in the mind of a dreamy, visually adept child. A true gift of an experience,” she said.
Patch Theatre Company is Australia’s only national theatre company dedicated to making theatre for four to eight year olds.
In its 43-year history the company has performed to more than 1.7 million children and their families both nationally and internationally, including seasons in the US, Singapore and Canada.
