A place for all these holidays

CHRISTMAS is a time of year for spending with family, but it can be hard when you don't have anyone to spend it with.

Monto resident Lyn Woodall is organising a community Christmas luncheon, to be held at the town hall supper room from 11am on Christmas Day, to give people a place to spend their holidays in company.

Thanks to a mish-mash of conflicting family obligations, Mrs Woodall had little family to spend Christmas with this year and wanted to be able to enjoy a big Christmas get-together.

"I really like Christmas, and my own family Christmas evaporated this year,” she said.

"The idea had been in my head for a long time, so I thought 'this is as good a time as any' and then I said it to somebody who wanted to volunteer and now it's all gone from there.”

Support has been big in town, with 20 people already reserving attendance, and many volunteering to offer their time on the day, as well as food and money donations to help out.

"I didn't ask for donations, but I've got enough to feed 80,” Mrs Woodall said.

"We've got ham, plum pudding and a leg of pork.”

To reserve a place at the luncheon, phone 4166 1091 by Friday, December 22.
