A new era of learning for the Kingaroy community
KINGAROY Kindergarten's lease celebration was about passing the baton onto the next generation of learners.
Director of The Centre for Supervised Distance Education Laurel Cohen will conduct her classes in the building previously owned by the kindy.
"It means we have somewhere to grow for the next, at least, three years,” she said.
Kindy sub committee member Kylie van Schyndel oversaw the massive lease process, for the building which was vacant since the kindy moved next door in September 2013.
"It's great to have a new purpose,” she said.
The kindy committee knew they wanted to give back to the community and use the building for education when they met with Ms Cohen, she said.
"Laurel fell in love with our little kindy and she had a genuine need for it,” Ms van Schundel said.
"As I look inside and see the many changes that Laurel and her team has made, I'm so excited about what the future holds for the building.”
Ms Cohen's centre has 12 students from Year 4 to 12, who learn through distance education due to mostly anxiety and autism reasons.
The new space will give the group the freedom to have playgrounds for kids to play and work on social skills, grow vegetable gardens, and hold community forums for parents in the area, she said.
