A huge family adores their Warwick mum
AS SHE looks forward to her 71st Mother's Day, 89-year-old Warwick mum Doris Lambert is in real danger of being swamped with cards, gifts and best wishes.
At last count Mrs Lambert had 11 children, 32 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, all keen to let her know just how special she is.
The youngest of those 11 kids, Karen Kington, said her mum was an amazing woman.
"She's just the toughest old lady,” Mrs Kington said.
"And she's been there for me every single step of the way. Nothing fazes her and she's always putting everyone else first, to mum family is everything.”
With that many birthdays to remember Mrs Lambert could be forgiven for forgetting the odd one or two.
"She never forgets,” Mrs Kington said.
"She's got a little book with all the birthdays and special occasions marked down, but nine times out of 10, she doesn't need it anyway.
"There's even a whole heap of people, outside the family, friends and neighbours that call her mum - she's very much loved.”
Mrs Lambert is currently staying with daughter Karen in Biloela, escaping the Southern Downs cold for a few months.
She remains humble about her role as matriarch of such an impressive clan.
"I'd never thought I'd have such a big family, but the more the merrier,” she said.
"I love my kids and all the grandkids and everyone else.
"I don't know that I'm an amazing mum, I think I just did what all mothers do.
"But I'd really like to wish all the mums a very happy Mother's Day.”
