THE fruits of Zonta's incredible Butterfly Ball earlier this year are beginning to be harvested.

Elaine Weir has been battling bowel cancer since November 2016, and after numerous operations and two rounds of chemotherapy, Ms Weir is now in what doctors would classify as the 'palliative stage'.

Ms Weir spent more than 30 years of her life in the catering industry, and loved cooking up a storm for her whole family when they got together.

Thanks to the generosity of Zonta, Ms Weir and her family were once again able to unite with food and laughter at Urban Paddock recently.

"To all sit together around a huge table and share some delicious food and wonderful company was such a blessing,” Elaine's daughter Annabelle said. "We didn't have to plan or stress about anything and we were just able to be together.

"I know we will always remember the gifts of family time filled with laughter and food. This is just the latest file in our memory banks.”

FSD proudly sponsored Zonta to help bring the initiative to life, and are looking forward to delivering more happiness to families going through tough times.

"It's another community project we're happy to be involved in,” FSD CEO James Bannerman said.

"Palliative care is an extension of what we do and it affects us all at some stage.”

Community palliative care coordinator for the Western Downs Maree Wylie said the initiative raises awareness of what's available to the community through the palliative care program.

"To be able offer something so valuable during this time has been great,” she said.

Zonta was thankful for the community's generosity in support of the program.
