A charity ball of elegance
THE Bundaberg Civic Centre was transformed into a place of elegance for the annual Mayor's Charity Ball on Saturday night.
Dozens donned fabulous frocks and slipped into suits for the charity event which raised money for the Bundaberg and District Committee on the Aging.
Bundaberg councillor Judy Peters said it was still too early to know exactly how much was raised but judging by the popularity of the silent auctions the night had been a success.
"The highest bid for the night was $1500," Cr Peters said.
But she would not reveal what that item was for as she had been told it was a surprise birthday present.
The most talked about item, a five-litre tub of Mammino's strawberry ice-cream designed for the Ekka, went to Bundaberg mayor Lorraine Pyefinch's husband, Frank, for $400.
The NewsMail understands the family made quite a dint in the ice cream over the weekend.
"There were a lot of disappointed people who did not win in the auction," Cr Peters said.
"But it was good to see the bids were going up in large increments rather than just $5 or $10."
Cr Peters described the event as very entertaining.
"Everyone enjoyed themselves," she said.
"There was always someone on the dance floor - even during the band's break."
Cr Peters said the evening was a very glamorous affair.
"To walk in to the Civic Centre with the sales and then the beautiful exquisite table decorations was just amazing," she said.
Each year the Mayor's Ball raises much-needed funds for one of Bundaberg's charities, which has been chosen by the mayor.
