A celebration of all the things we know and love

THE Ipswich Multicultural Projects International Cafe will become a celebration of all the things we know and love about our own backyard this Saturday, September 13.

Brass band the C-17s will play a mixture of classic Australiana songs in between a three-course Aussie feast at the Masonic Hall, from 6.45pm.

After years of celebrating overseas cultures at the International Cafe events, organiser Hedy Keogh said it was time to try something a little out of left field.

The three-course meal will feature an old Aussie favourite - meat pies with mushy peas and potatoes.

The C-17s have been playing for the past seven years, mainly around the city's nursing homes and retirement villages.

The cafe will be preceded by the monthly markets, which will be held under the sails at d'Arcy Doyle Place from 8am-noon.

Among the stalls will be Ipswich youngster Sarah Fildes, who is hoping to use her grandmother's stall to help raise money for a trip to the US to advance her jazz and tap dancing skills.
