MCG management warns against dumping ashes on grounds

THE Melbourne Cricket Club has foiled several attempts to make the famous turf of the MCG a final resting place for cricket and AFL fans.

It was revealed yesterday that MCC ground staff found several piles of ashes after more than 30,000 visitors attended an open day on November 17.

The club strictly bans the practice and rejects requests for people to scatter ashes.

"Often you find in the ashes there are small fragments of bone and that can be quite sharp and jagged and for footballers and cricketers running across the turf that can be quite dangerous," club spokesman Shane Brown said
