Live cattle exports have increased under Abbott as PM

MORE than 1 million head of live cattle have been exported since the Abbott government took office.

The exports represented a 54% increase between September last year and April this year, compared with the same six-month period the previous year.

Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce said the exports had also lifted average saleyard prices around the country, up from 276 cents to 316 cents per kilogram between April last year and April this year.

Lamb exports rose 13% over the same period to 226,306 tonnes and beef and veal exports were up 18% year on year, to 103,257 tonnes in 2013-14.
