$900k bid to create Coast resort with a difference
TANYA Barton is a woman with a vision.
The 46-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer has been unable to take a holiday, the reliability of accommodation venues' suitability claims not strong enough to lure her away from home.
But she hopes to change that by creating her own disabled and elderly-friendly accommodation, with the Sunshine Coast her first target.
The Brisbane native grew up in Wavell Heights and said as a child her family holidays had been restricted to units on the Gold Coast.
"We stayed at the units because they were the only ones we were aware of that were completely wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately they no longer exist," she said.
"As an adult living with cerebral palsy, I am not able to go away on holiday because I can't rely on the suitability of accommodation venues.
"A lot of holiday accommodation outlets tell you they are wheelchair friendly, but they are not."

Ms Barton has taken to the internet in a bid to turn her dream into reality, setting up a gofundme.com account called 'Ramp to Paradise', to try and raise upwards of $900,000 to purchase a property on the Coast and modify it to become wheelchair-friendly.
Inspiration came after one holiday experience where she was forced to take cold showers outdoors in a pool area, after being told the shower was wheelchair-friendly, but upon arrival, it proved to be far too small.
She has her eyes on a waterfront home or unit in a popular holiday destination in the region, with the ideal property a four-bedroom waterfront, in the hope of transforming the dwelling into a holiday retreat for those unable to enjoy typical holidays.
"I could have gone down easy street and made this not-for-profit but personally I would love to run another business of my own, become financially independent and give back to the community," Ms Barton's Gofundme page reads.
"The main aim of this campaign is not to obtain a holiday home for myself, although it would be really nice to live the high life, it is to purchase a four-bedroom house or unit in a popular holiday destination on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, where people with a disability and the elderly can escape and have their own dream holiday."
Ms Barton hoped to "provide people with choice of wheelchair friendly accommodation in popular holiday destinations starting on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland", before expanding throughout Australia.
Donations at the Go Fund Me page have passed $4000.
