$240k lighting, sound upgrade for Heritage Theatre

THESPIANS across the region rejoice - light and sound at the Gympie Heritage Theatre is set to receive a $241,000 upgrade.

The Gympie Regional Council voted unanimously in Wednesday's ordinary meeting to award a contract for light and sound upgrades in the Heritage Theatre to Harris Movement Engineering.

The council also agreed to purchase seven more microphones, subject to funding, and consult further with user groups over lighting requirements.

CEO Bernard Smith said the council had already gone through "two years of research and consultation" with different user groups.

Councillor Glen Hartwig said improving the Heritage Theatre would bring higher-profile performances.
