$150k to lure tourists

A TOURISM and marketing campaign worth $150,000 and involving businesses and other local stakeholders in Wooli and Minnie Water is under way and on track to be rolled out next year.

"We have got the money and it will be spent this financial year," Clarence Valley Tourism manager Jenny Massie said.

The funding was allocated earlier this year as part of the former Labor government's proposed reorganisation of the Solitary Islands Marine Park.

"In October workshops were organised to bring local tourism operators, other businesses and stakeholders together to assess the various tourism experiences available in the area," she said.

"The next step is to form the Wooli Minnie Waters Tourism Team to develop the best way to spend the money to further the level of visitors to the area.

"We are in the process of calling for expressions of interest to prepare the project and come up with initiatives."

A percentage of the money will go towards marketing and the remainder will fund business development.

"The marketing money will be used to promote the whole area rather than individual businesses. It will be about the Solitary Islands Marine Park and the Yuraygir Coastal Walk, and about how these local towns can link in with these experiences."
