$1100 fine ignoring fire ban
A BENTLEY landholder has received the first fine this season for breaching a total fire ban.
Rural Fire Service Superintendent Michael Brett said the landholder received the $1100 fine this week for careless use of fire on September 7.
Supt Brett said the weather on that day was extreme and the landholder was potentially placing the community at risk by ignoring the total fire ban.
"Clearly this landholder has acted in total disregard for the total fire ban imposed and potentially placed himself and other rural land holders at risk from an escaping fire," he said.
"We took severe action with this one because it was on a total fire ban day."
A number of warning letters have been sent out to Northern Rivers residents by the Rural Fire Service already this fire season and Supt Brett said other instances of fire breaches are still being investigated.
