V8 transporters draw a large crowd in Townsville

EIGHTEEN flashy and colourful B-double trucks make their way through Townsville streets during the annual Transporter Convoy today.

These magnificent trucks carry the V8 Supercars for racing events around the country with the seventh Townsville Castrol Edge 400 event starting two days after the convoy.

Tens of thousands of men, women and children lined the route after the convoy commenced at Webb Drive the Bohle at 11.50am.

Led by a police escort the trucks travelled along Shaw Rd, the Ring Rd, Hervey's Range Rd, Ross River Rd, Charters Towers Road and then into Reid Park on Boundary St.

The crowd watching the trucks was the biggest on record.
