WORKING in the mining industry with a week off in every three proved an advantage for truckie Rod 'Rocket' Camm.
Rod works at Newlands in the Bowen basin carrying coal in a Kenworth and was lucky enough for his time off to fall when the Sucrogen V8 Supercar races were on in Townsville from July 6-8.
Two days earlier he got down to Webb Drv at the Bohle where the 18 trucks that carry the V8s were preparing to convoy through the city.
"There is a really good turnout here and I checked everything out and 90% of the trailers have steel rims," he said.
Rod loved a Western Star which carries V8 cars for Tekno of Brisbane.
"I am not really into the Mack trucks," he said.
All of the trucks proved a real highlight for Rod who said he hauls coal when at work on site to the treatment plant.
